Description
What if buildings materials could grow themselves—cell by cell? This session explores the cutting edge of architectural material innovation through the lens of synthetic biology. Moving beyond natural materials, this talk will examine how genome engineering is being used to control the expression of proteins that self-assemble into high-performance materials, including bio-ceramics and genetically modified timber. Drawing from experimental research and lab-based design methods, the presentation will focus on how protein-level control of material formation opens radically new possibilities for low-energy fabrication, tunable materials, and regenerative construction practices.
