Community Parks are a key component to healthy and resilient communities, a vital piece of urban infrastructure that provides widespread benefits to community residents. In this way, every square inch of park space becomes invaluable, integrating the built environment with nature. This session will explore a series of public parks and their interplay with nature. Case study examples include the new Lubber Run Community Center in Arlington, VA, and the renovation of Stead Park Recreation Center in DC, set to become DC’s first Net-Zero community center. Each project is rooted in community outreach and engagement, navigating complex environmental and social conditions to achieve community buy-in and enhance their public ecosystems.
