Maggie is the founder of Chestnut Knoll Studio, a boutique design firm providing full-service architecture and design services for modern residential projects. She grew up in the Virginia Piedmont with a love of nature, the landscape’s textures, and the vernacular forms of the region. Her
love for textures and layering are prominent throughout her design work.
Following recieving her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech in 2008, Maggie moved to Richmond and previously worked at SMBW and 3north. In 2019, Maggie followed her heart and began to practice on her own. This pivot point in her career has allowed her to focus on the design
and construction of her own home and custom residences. She believes a space should influence those that experience it, and Maggie wanted to live in, experience, and be surprised by her design to help transform the future work of her clients.
Maggie is a champion for the evolution of the architecture profession through her roles in various industry organizations. Maggie graduated from AIAVA’s Emerging Leaders in Architecture program in 2011, served on the Board of Directors for both AIARVA and AIAVA, and was chair of AIAVA’s
inaugural Art of Practice Conference. Maggie also served as the regional representative for Virginia and West Virginia at the national Small Firm Exchange and currently serves on Modern Richmond’s board of directors as Vice Chair and head of Programs. Modern Richmond is a non profit that works to promote and elevate modern design in Richmond Virginia and beyond.
