This presentation will explain the significant changes in the Virginia Construction Code from 2018 to 2021. Specifically, the areas of focus will be fire and smoke protection features, means of egress and accessibility. We will discuss the origins of these revisions from the International Building Code and the fundamental reasoning behind these changes. The presentation will provide examples to elucidate the updates and make them easily understood. Lastly, we will explain how these changes will be utilized in design as well as enforced.
