Charles has been practicing in Virginia for almost thirty-five years, over 25 years with Quinn Evans and its predecessor Richmond, Virginia based firm, BCWH. Charles was instrumental in the successful merger of the firms in 2018 and served on the Board of Directors until this year. Charles' own work has traced themes common to Quinn Evan's firm award recognition, including historic preservation projects like the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School and Virginia Union's Industrial Hall; highly sustainable facilities for K-12 and higher education; and community spaces for arts and culture like the Richmond Ballet and the Science Museum's Dewey Gottwald Center.
In a career with a particular focus in higher education, his experience includes campus master planning and programming architectural projects, precinct plans and innovative learning spaces for legal, business, medical and general education purposes. His clients include the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Bucknell University, Washington and Lee University, Randolph-Macon College, Morehouse College and the College of William and Mary. Charles has a BS in Design from Clemson University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland.
